Construction Site Monitoring

Construction sites,  Rivers, Dams, pumping stations, motorways, and nature reserves are just some of the numerous remote locations that regularly require CCTV surveillance  either in response to a security breach or because as a result of a requirement for remote monitoring and / or recording of video at scheduled intervals.

Problems inherent with almost all remote sites are:

  • Absence of regular power supplies for camera and recording equipment

  • Danger to onsite recording equipment through theft or malicious damage

  • The absence of telephone lines for remote communications

IViewCameras have a range of alternative solutions available to enable system users to optimise CCTV performance and detection using solar or wind powered energy.  These together with either 2.4GHz wireless communications or mobile telephony using GPRS offer excellent communications methods that are suitable for use in many instances.

Our preferred cameras for deployment externally is the Mobotix 10D IP camera. Reasons are:

  • Fully weatherproofed to IP66 without a need for additional camera housings

  • Integral Passive Infrared, Video Motion Detection, double knock PIR and VMD, two way speech for intercom, alarm sounder and digital voice enunciator

  • Low wattage – just 3 watts

  • Integral external alarm inputs and relay outputs

  • Highly sophisticated camera light setting adjustments for extreme conditions

  • High performance in extreme weather conditions

  • Features Power over the Ethernet

Wireless 2.4GHz  Links

Where line of site is feasible from the transmitter to the receiver either directly or through a repeater Wireless 2.4 GHz transmission of video and data is an ideal solution in many instances.  Distances up to 16 Km (10 miles) can be achieved. Zyxel transmitters and receivers, supplied through IViewCameras, are designed for outdoor use and no additional housing is required.  The 2.4GHz band radio allows flexible network design in remote supervisory or observation of environment at remote locations such as  rivers, dams and construction sites where it's difficult to construct wired networks.   No license is required for use. No communication cost is charged. Easy wiring in regular replacement of monitoring sites.

Our proposed solution uses either

  • Wind Power and Solar Panel Operation available for Wireless IP Network using equipment supplied by Zephyr.  (Contact IViewCameras for details)

  • Combination with solar battery and Wind power. Zyxel G-6000 Long Haul Pack 2.4 GHz transmitter.

The ZyXEL G-6000 is an instantly deployable outdoor broadband solution for network connectivity to eliminate the need for expensive leased lines or be a backup for other media. With Point-to-2-Points configuration, users can either extend the communication range or overcome the non-line-of-sight problems. Designed-in authentication and encryption secure the transmission of sensitive information.

Flexibility

Operating in the license-free 2.4 GHz frequency band, the G-6000 provides an excellent broadband experience for long-range outdoor wireless Ethernet connection. Acting in a simple PTP topology, it relieves the need to lay wires and labor required to bridge LAN segments between buildings. Configured as a PT2P topology, it extends the effective communication range, as well as offering a means to overcome problems experienced in a non-line-of-sight environment.

High Speed & Security

With Up to 108 Mbps data rate and TKIP/AES security support, the G-6000 is very suitable for business-class applications which require high performance and security. It is also conceived as a cost-effective alternative to leased lines for reducing recurring charges, and offering fast return-on-investment to its users especially WISP, ILEC and CLEC.

 Ease-of-Deployment

The PoE design eliminates the need for an additional power cord while installed. The AK-100, with RSSI and SNR indicators, provides a great help to the installer when targeting the antenna, easily especially for long-distance alignment. The G-6000 provides an instant and independent infrastructure which is immediately deployable with lower infrastructure costs than any other solution on the market.

GPRS Deployment

An alternative video transmission method is GPRS.  However most currently available solutions require that a command by the receiver must be sent to pull further each additional images across the network for live viewing.

GPRS technology for the transmission of video is evolving at the present time and several new solutions delivering frame rates at up continuous video at speeds up to 5 frames a second to mobile phones, PDAs and Web servers.

Unfortunately these solutions are for lower cost products designed for the low end of the market and not professional end of the market.  During late 2005 and early 2006 this situation is likely to change with the emergence of several transmitters for the professional end of the market.

For the moment GPRS is a convenient and secure way of transmitting data across a network and is recommended for transmission of video clips using FTP protocols to an FTP server.  In non time critical applications this is an expensive and relatively reliable way of communicating data.

GPRS modems that have been tested with the Mobotix 10D camera are the Siemens MC35, MC45 and the Nokia 30.  Configuration scipts for these units are available from IViewCameras upon request.
